The Barcelona metropolitan area ((カタルーニャ語、バレンシア語:Àrea metropolitana de Barcelona), (スペイン語:Área metropolitana de Barcelona)) is a metropolitan area in Catalonia, north of Spain, centered on the city of Barcelona. With a population of around 5 million, it's the most populous metropolitan area on the Mediterranean coast, and one of the largest in Europe.

The urban area — core of metropolitan area of Barcelona has a population of 4,604,000〔(Demographia: World Urban Areas ), 2013〕 being the sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, Ruhr area, Madrid and Milan. The Larger Urban Zone has a population of 4,440,629〔(【引用サイトリンク】year = 2006 )〕 according to Eurostat.
